Long Distance:

This project attempts to reveal the nature of long-distance driving spanning long periods of time. It shows the relationship between the driver and the passing environment, as well as the feelings of alienation and escape that come with such journeys.

It has long been known long distance drivers experience hallucinations as a result of tiredness and the repetitive nature of driving along straight roads in particular. Your mind has optimum time for deep introspection as on the seductive side of driving you experience constant change, anticipation of the unknown, freedom of being removed from your context and set out into the world. The feeling you get when nobody knows where you are but you. Combined with the crushing feeling of tiredness and the need to keep on moving to be somewhere by a particular time as your mind wanders in and out of your sub conscious creating extremity of thought to get through that tough period.

These images show the myriad of thought, places and people you see and encounter on a trip across countries and continents looking out through a windscreen.
